Review of the Privacy Act 1988

In January 2022, we responded to the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department’s review of the Privacy Act 1988.

In our submission, we supported the Department’s objectives of better empowering consumers, protecting their data, best serving the Australian economy, and addressing the Privacy Act’s interaction with other Commonwealth regulatory frameworks. We welcomed a streamlined regulatory environment for privacy, focused on data protection at a fundamental level, while enabling new interoperable and technology neutral approaches to digital identity and the sharing of personal information generally.
